Day 92 - Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

Breakfast was dutifully observed at the Charleville Park Hotel, where a fine buffet spread of cereals, fruits, breads, cheeses and fried goods was laid on, and as if that wasn't enough, even more complimentary food could be ordered from the slightly surly waitress - all part of the outstanding €34 per person per night Bed & Breakfast tariff. Having enjoyed Weetabix and lashings of fruit, I asked for an omelette, choosing tomato and herbs as the two fillings from the list, and was served a number of minutes later with an omelette bursting with ham. By law in Charleville, everything must contain large amounts of ham and/or Charleville cheese, so I chose to eat it without quibble, and jolly good it was too.

Round about 10.20am we drove the couple of miles or so to Charleville Golf Club, where our green fee was reduced to a best-in-nation €15 per person - gift! We teed off in warm sunshine, but soon dark clouds loomed and at the 4th hole, along came the first of two heavy showers. Thankfully, the course is blessed with oodles of sturdy tall trees, which offered ample shelter, although this was tested with the 2nd offering - an almighty cascade of precipitation, which the course did well to semi-digest. Today's contest pitted Team Ski Instruction (Danny & Niall) versus Team Trance (Conquer and Damo) and a fine well-balanced contest it was until the end, when the Trance Gurus pulled away to win by 3&2 and lift the prestigious inaugural Charleville Cheese trophy.

Relaxation was on the mind now, so we whisked ourselves back to the hotel to avail of their fine leisure facilities, baking in the sauna, followed by extended jacuzzi wallowage and a stint in the steam room - outlandishly good! Batteries were now fully re-charged, enabling a walk into town to enjoy another of its pubs, where I partook of a Guinness, vegetable soup and lasagne 'n chips - a triumvirate of deliciousness - as we watched the last quarter of Liverpool perishing to West Brom (guffaw!).

Back to Gough's we went to avenge our decision to exit there too early last night, and before long the Guinnesses were flowing and a dominoes marathon was in full flight, where Team Ski Instruction gained sporting revenge by lifting the glittering Dominoes Pizza Trophy after a 3 sets to 1 victory. The people of Charleville love their rugby so the place was heaving for the Munster-Leinster Magners League match, which the home side won by a single point. After much chatter with the locals, time to head back to the hotel, venue of the town's only night-club, opening only once a week. Given these facts, expectations were low, but were turned on their head when we entered upon a swanky-decor nighterie with banging choons and lively clientele. Time to shorten the drinks, with Fat Frogs and vodka Smirnoff Ice the order of the evening, ensuring lively frugging on the dancefloor, most especially to the brilliant Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO - most definitely the Choon of the Moment.

Alas all too soon (3.30am), affairs came to a displeasing halt, although there was much comfort in the fact that our hotel rooms were but yards away - mint!

The torrential shower did little to dampen the spirits
