Day 8 - Saturday, January 8th, 2011

After watching Leeds United very nearly beat Arsenal in the FA Cup, I went via Shank's Mare and LUAS to the Woolshed sports bar on Parnell Street to watch some more FA Cup action with Enda, Dave and his mate Mad Tony from Monaghan. After 40 dull minutes of the Stevenage v Newcastle United match, we decided to enliven proceedings by offering odds to each other. Mad Tony took up my generous offer of 5-1 on a 0-0 full time result, and when Stevenage scored early in the 2nd half, he went another tenner on a 1-1 result at odds of 5-1. Stevenage then made it 2-0, so that was €20 in my virtual bookmaking satchel - great success! Enda and Dave also made a bet with each other, but hilarity ensued when both jumped up and screamed with delight when Stevenage scored - they had both believed that they had bet on that to happen!

                                                    Small-screen action at the Woolshed
After the consumption of 3 Heinekens and 2 pint bottles of Bulmers, it was decided to head to Dave's house for some poker, but by the time we got to the taxi outside, the venue had mystically changed to my place. Following lively (drunken) political debate in the taxi, we sashayed to the Centra convenience store located on the ground floor of my apartment block, and sourced desperately needed alcoholic supplies. At this stage we were joined by Arron and his mate Ger. Continued jovial spirits ensued the pace of poker play was utterly tortuous, culminating in no-one winning anything. The evening concluded with a session of Nintendo Wii soccer-headers, with devastatingly high scores achieved.
